Stop the Amazon Deforestation Abstract
Governments argue that cutting down trees from the forests generate jobs and provide economic security, however it just does the opposite. With the new technology available, cutting vast areas of forest can be done by one person with heavy machinery and it does not provide economic security in the long run because a rainforest is not easily renewable. Cattle ranching has risen to be one of the top grossing activities for Brazil in this decade and has proven to overtake competition around the world. Brazil priority is to be an exporting power and not the conservation of their environment. Although we cant blame them to want to economically stronger, there is a certain limit for everything and the deforestation has to be stopped.
The Amazon rainforest is home to many different species of animals and some only seen in this specific forest. Some of these species have become extinct because of the continuous destruction of their home. With all the technology and machinery we bring into the forests, mother nature doesn’t stand a chance at survival. Why are we cutting it down? Why do we need rainforest?
The forests are essential to the earth’s ecosystem, not just because of the oxygen they give out, but for all the purposes they serve. Many of the plants found in the Amazon rainforest have the potential to serve us medicinally because 70% of them contain cancer fighting agents and are awaiting research. There are currently 121 medical prescription drugs that are derived from different plants in the Amazon. These prescriptions were obtained from only 2% of the plants that have been studied in the Amazon rainforest leaving 98% of the plant species untested. There is incredible potential in finding a cure for AIDS, HIV or other leading causes of death in the world. Protecting this forest would be beneficial to our future and those of future generations, we might be the last generation capable of making a change.

Governments Role in Food
I dont think the Government should tell us what we are supposed to eat but they should regulate what is available for us. People dont really want to investigate every product they are going to buy for its health benefits or nutrients. People base their choices on price and flavor. most of the processed food is also based on those two factors; affordability and good taste. Americans havc chosed processed food over organic because it is cheaper and because they are used to having the same flavor. the government should be in charge of testing all the foods that have been modified and hold a standard that is healthy to human beings that resembles the unprocesed food. I think the government should also try and make organic food cheaper by not charging as much tax or providing services to those farmes who are still growing their crops how their grandparents did.

Massacre in Cuidad Juarez
The most recent shooting of the on going drug war in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, left 18 people dead and others wounded. Four hooded men stormed into a drug rehab clinic, lined up the addicts and shot them. Cuidad Juarez has witnessed at least 1,100 murders this year alone. Mexico's violence has increase so much that people are being murdered in broad daylight. These gruesome killings have raised concerns about the safety of Americans who are couple miles away from these deadly attacks. In my opinion, I think this is both a US and Mexico problem. The only reason the drugs are going by Cuidad Juarez is because its a bordering city to Texas. The demand for drugs in the US gives the cartels power. Money to pay-off mexican officials and sometimes over power the state government to the point where the National army of Mexico needs to step in. I think the US could help by providing Mexico with a better trained police or drug searching tactical teams. If both countries shared information about the cartels and where abouts of high ranking leaders of these illegal businessmen, the drug war could be over sooner than we think. Mexico should keep enforcing its policy against drug cartels in the country. The US should remain on their territory and try and detect any drug shipments coming into their country.
